We introduce the von Neumann's inequality for contractions and give several proofs of it. Some proofs are operator theoretic, some are function theoretic.

王奕，重庆大学教授，“弘深优秀学者”、国家级高层次青年人才，毕业于复旦大学和美国德州农机大学，主要从事解析希尔伯特模上的算子研究，在Arveson-Douglas猜测及相关几何不变量，Toeplitz算子相关研究上做出重要工作，相关论文发表在Adv.Math., Proc.Lond.Math.Soc., JFA, IUMJ等著名数学期刊上。
